Abstract
Open transmission access and deregulation are causing fundamental changes in the economics of generating, transmission and distributing electric power. As the market moves to a deregulated environment, uncertainty in cost recovery and vulnerability risks complicates transmission investment decisions. How to attract investments and how to speed up the realization process become very hot points. In this context the paper gives some hints on the the Italian approach for the long-term expansion of the electricity transmission network.
