Abstract
The authors address a requirement for providing secure fully connected data processing services at a local site that may be spread out over several buildings of a campus environment. The network might consist of any variety of vendor terminals, workstations, hosts, or intermediate processors. Users are logically members of the same working community although they might reside in different locations throughout the site. The authors describe an ongoing program of architectural design, network performance modeling, and simulation intended to provide a better understanding of complex networks both during equipment development and during network implementation.<>
