Abstract
This paper presents a lowpass microstrip filter employing metal-loaded slots etched in the ground plane. The filter exhibits a superior RF performance in comparison with low pass filters that are based on electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures. Several metal-loaded slot configurations have been proposed and theoretically investigated. A lowpass microstrip filter employing one of these slots is built and tested. The measured results are in good agreement with simulation demonstrating the validity of the proposed concept.
