Abstract :
This paper presents a novel and improved three-dimensional plane wave time domain (PWTD) algorithm. PWTD schemes constitute extensions of frequency domain fast multipole methods to the time domain, and permit the fast evaluation of transient wave fields generated by bandlimited sources. Previously, we demonstrated the equations pertinent to the analysis of electromagnetic scattering problems. Implementation of such solvers is hindered by the relative complexity of the underlying PWTD kernels. The proposed scheme is simper and easier to implement than previously reported kernels. In addition, compared to prior PWTD schemes, (i) the new scheme features a simplified translation operator, (ii) requires less memory and computational complexity. Furthermore, the proposed scheme does not involve any approximations other than those already present in the original scheme.
