Abstract
An alternative control strategy of a UPFC, based on hysteresis control of the switches is presented. It is shown that a UPFC under hysteresis control will have nearly sinusoidal injected output current and voltage for reactive power and real power compensation while keeping the UPFC in its simplest configuration. Hysteresis control also promises a faster response (within cycle) when compared to traditional control strategy. The proposed device was simulated using ATP-EMTP and the results demonstrate the advantages of hysteresis control.
