Abstract
Voltage sag, swell, asymmetry, flicker and harmonics in distribution system, made by faults in power system or the increasing use of large numbers of nonlinear and impactive loads, will result in power quality sensitive equipment operating abnormally and causing huge economic losses. The principles of a series power quality compensator, which is based on modern power electronics, are discussed and verified by simulation and experiment in this paper. The results indicate that the series power quality compensator is one of the most effective means to solve those problems mentioned above and can satisfy the requirements of power quality for sensitive loads.
