Abstract
In intelligent vehicle highway system, a broadband seamless communication system should be equipped for intelligent highway in order to provide better roadside support for both traditional human operated vehicles and automatic driving vehicles. In this study, wireless 802.11b technology was applied to build up a chained communication network. Concept of roadside data bus was proposed. Experiments demonstrated that it is practical to replace high cost dedicated short range communication technology with 802.11b technology in applications of traffic information broadcasting and collecting. Further applications such as floating car data collection were also discussed.
