  • Abstract
With the high density deployment of CSMA/CA based IEEE 802.11 WLAN, the problem of inter-cell co-channel interference mitigation arises. However, due to the limitation of DCF in handling hidden terminal and exposed terminal, such co- channel interference in a multi-cell configuration has been a challenging problem so far for decades. This paper proposes a novel way to proactively release/adjust radio resource partitioning, which is named as relinquish inter-frame spacing (RIFS). The RIFS action is initiated by the "resource-rich" AP based on its own QoS measurement results. As a consequence, the "resource-poor" APs in the same neighborhood may benefit from such RIFS action and win the contention of resources. We also proposed a reference design of self-organized interference mitigation solution based on the proactive RIFS scheme. Our simulation results show that the self-organized interference mitigation solution with proactive RIFS can effectively mitigate the interference effects and get the resource shared among different APs much more evenly.
