Abstract :
A good control of the continuous Kamyr digester will result in increased production, more efficient utilization of wood, chemicals and energy and then improved pulp quality. Obstacles to achieve this objective are the lack of reliable sensors, the presence of various disturbances inside the digester, the strong dynamic interactions and nonlinear behavior of this process. Application of advanced multivariable control strategies, such as model based control, is being investigated at Canfor´s Prince George Pulp & Paper Mills. This paper presents some industrial results from this application and discussions of future steps
