Abstract
In this research work, we proposed a new, efficient and compact software based IPv6 packet generator, V6GEN and a new packet classification framework for IPv6 traffics, V6PCF. V6GEN is compact as packet construction support for IPv6 packets in neighbor discovery, automatic tunneling and network mobility are proposed while V6PCF is to provide a platform in designing, implementing and evaluating software based classification algorithm. From the performance analysis, V6GEN is justifiable where 100% of the intended packets are generated and injected to the network in a real time environment with bandwidth allocated while a 95% of packets injected under an unallocated bandwidth. V6GEN is also one of the components in V6PCF. Feasibility study has been conducted on V6PCF to illustrate the effectiveness of V6PCF in addressing packet classification problem. The evaluation and implementation of linear search packet classification in IPv6 is chosen as a case study to justify the functionality of V6PCF. These findings are reported in this paper. Overall, V6GEN acts as an alternative tool in commissioning and testing IPv6 network deployment while V6PCF tense to provide an alternative approach to researchers in designing and evaluating packet classification algorithm specifically designed for IPv6. These are important in current network field as IPv6 is gaining its popularity with the depletion of IPv4 address.
