Abstract :
Why is the dispersion -flattened fiber incapable of practical applications? Is the PCF the only choice for all-wave fibers? All-wave non-zero dispersion-flattened single mode fibers have following features: The maximum absolute value of dispersion between 1300nm and 1625nm is smaller than the maximum dispersion of the G.656 fiber between 1460nm and 1625nm. Higher-order modes are negligible. The effective area becomes larger. Depressed triple-clad fibers could satisfy both present and future commercial needs and approach the ultimate in performance until the practical usage of the PBG type of PCF.
