Abstract :
Simulation is always the hot spot in the research and development of networks. However, it´s hard for many existing simulation tools to simulate wireless sensor networks (WSN) well due to its features, like the extremely large number of nodes, the need for environment sensing, as well as the volatile topology of the model, etc. On the other hand, the natures of these tools prevent them, more or less, from performing effectively. In this paper, a generic WSN simulator named WSM, working with OMNET++, has been presented. The design of WSM would be highlighted here. Meanwhile, a novel method comprised of UML-RT and colored Petri net is introduced in this paper to formalize the definition and development. The result on WSM´s capability and performance are provided through a Zigbee related case.
