Retrieval of butterfly from its sketched image utilizing image navigation directory on multimedia network

This paper describes a new type of image directory for butterflies, called an image navigation directory, which retrieves a desired image referring to a series of typical sample images specified as keys in place of keywords. After the image coming from the imagination of the user is sketched on the display, the image navigation directory having three functions is used to retrieve the desired image. In order to facilitate these functions, parameters are defined. The desired images can be retrieved from the distributed image databases all over the world using the image navigation directory. As an application of this concept, an image retrieval system of butterflies was generated utilizing the functions of the image navigation directory
