Abstract
We present an adaptive rate communication in conjunction with cooperative MIMO for uniform energy load distribution in wireless sensor networks (WSN). The inherent data flow structure of WSN causes uneven load distribution in the network. The transit nodes and the nodes near the base station (BS) carry more network traffic load than the other nodes in the network. We have analyzed the cooperative MIMO based WSN and found that transmission rate and constellation size can effectively control the energy consumption without violating the required bit error rate (BER). Simulation results show that cooperative MIMO in conjunction with adaptive transmission rate in multi hop communication renders a uniform network load in all hops.
