Abstract :
This paper provides a tutorial for the first steps with JavaCard and OpenCard Framework. To develop applications using JavaCards comprehensive knowledge about the smart card architecture or machine code programming is no longer required. Anyone having a moderate experience with the Java programming language can easily develop new applications that exchange data between a JavaCard and a desktop computer. The OpenCard Framework (OCF) provides a platform-independent terminal-side solution supporting Java. The examples and techniques presented in the paper are based on Schlumberger´s Cyberflex Open16K card family supporting JavaCard 2.0 API. We show how to develop a JavaCard applet, how to install it on the card, and how to use it from a terminal application within OCF
