Abstract
Partial discharge (PD) detection is one of the most important tests for assessing the quality and viability of an insulating system. The present paper deals with PD detection in 145 kV gas insulated substation (GIS) module by utilizing modern computer aided discharge analyser system (CDA). Laboratory tests have been carried out on a model busbar. With special reference to the simulation of various types of defects and generation of PD patterns to identify different discharge sources. PD test results reveal a good correlation between the discharge patterns and the type of defects
