Novel concept in high voltage generation: PowerformerTM

A new generator, Powerformer^TM, which is able to supply electricity directly to the high voltage grid without the need for a step-up transformer, has been developed by ABB in Sweden. The new generator is suitable for power generation at output voltages of several hundred kilovolts. The new concept is based on circular conductors for the stator winding and it is implemented by using proven high-voltage cable technology.
