Abstract
A simple mathematical model is presented for continuous arteriovenous hemofiltration (CAVH). It has been implemented in MS-BASIC on an IBM PC. Given the arterial and venous pressures as well as arterial blood hematocrit and plasma proteins, the computer program calculates the steady-state values that various hemodynamic quantities will assume in the extracorporeal circuit during the application of CAVH. The results obtained indicate that the proposed model reproduces with sufficient approximation the experimental behavior of the CAVH system when mean arterial pressure and blood flow are lower than about 90 mmHg and 150 ml/min, respectively.<>
