Abstract
A preliminary study is presented of the effects of the epicutaneous injection of insulin under the action of an electric field. Results from 100 rabbits have shown that absorption depends on the gradient of the electric field applied and probably also on the increase of the absorption rate of the substance as a consequence of the hypervascularization that by thermic action provokes the circulating current. With a 0.01 UI/kg dose of rapid insulin, a significant increase of the risetime of the glycemic depletion occurs. This is interpreted as an acceleration of the absorption of insulin due to the field applied. The results indicate that the technique improves handling of the insulin profile.<>
