Abstract :
This paper proposes a two-layer buffer management mechanism MYBUF, it is based on memory protected mode, has configurability, support static and dynamic allocation and backup operations, this mechanism which has high performance, simple and reliable characteristic meet the management requirement of embedded system. By using this MYBUF buffer management mechanism, data zero copy technology has been realized while transmit data through the embedded TCP/IP stack. Besides, the key data structure is only 10.8% of the size of traditional sk_buff which is used in Linux TCP/IP protocol stack The management mechanism has been successfully applied to the bidirectional system platform for HDTV (high definition television), which has DOCSIS(data-over-cable service interface specifications) MAC layer chip developed in our lab, and meets the demands of set top box and other embedded system network communications. The tests in real network conditions show that the system provides a good performance and reliability.
