Abstract
Expert systems with a large volume of data are difficult to implement for an expert system in the field of nutrition; the knowledge (400 foodstuffs and 28 nutrients) which must be represented and handled is extensive and involves a very large number of relations. In order to solve this problem, the authors have chosen a formalism for the knowledge base that relies on object structuring. The authors justify the choice of an object-oriented language, KEOPS. The static knowledge representation and inference mechanism of the expert system is then presented.<>
