  • Abstract
Interaction of electromagnetic waves with cylindrical objects has a very long history. It was among the first problems, for which a strict solution has been found. However, this problem attracts attention till now. This is due to many practical applications of the phenomenon of wave diffraction on a cylinder. Thus, analysis of the diffraction pattern can provide information on the cylinder cross-section, its form and refractive index. The effects arising from the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with dielectric or metallic fibers are used to measure parameters of the radiation. A device is described, the main part of which is a grating of glass fibers, which allows measuring pressure of laser radiation. It is shown how to measure laser power and intensity distribution in the beam using a grating of thin metallic wires.
