  • Abstract
The establishment of the new academic discipline, services science, management and engineering (SSME), calls for a strong theoretical foundation. As a core element in the process of services, knowledge exchange and its measurement could be a focus of the new discipline. In this paper, we attempt to provide a roadmap toward achieving that goal. It is recognized that human beings as information systems are boundary-less and their knowledge domains are limitless. It is necessary to introduce the concept of task to truncate each person´s knowledge domain. In a simple example of achromats, we demonstrate that it is possible to measure the knowledge gap of a person with respect to specific tasks.
