Computer supported collaborative language learning based on on-line markup

This paper describes a computer supported communicative correction environment called CoCoA (Communicative Correction Assisting System) that supports teachers and students to exchange marked-up documents via the Internet. Its environment is very similar to a real one in which people use a pen and paper. A correction is an effort to improve a document among teachers and students. There are few systems to manage the correction processes with a computer. We have developed a version management module on CoCoA. This module supports the correction processes. The correction process is a combination of a serial structure and a parallel structure. A parallel structure needs to merge documents corrected by many teachers. However, to merge is particularly difficult as each teacher thinks differently. A semi-automatic merge method and a system to help users are proposed
