Abstract :
The drive system for the Visteon Integrated Starter-Alternator (VISA), which uses ultracapacitors as the main power source, is developed and demonstrated. VISA system controller integration with the engine and induction motor controllers is presented. The controller parameters are identified and tuned for both the motoring and generation mode of operation. The high performance advanced controller for electric machines (ACE), designed and developed at the Ford Research Laboratory is used to implement and execute the control strategy. Experimental results show that the drive system meets the torque/power specification for starting the engine and functions as an alternator once the engine has started
