Abstract
Electric power steering (EPS) system has attracted much attention for their advantages. The motor is one of the most important parts for EPS system. The EPS motor is DC motor or brushless DC (BLDC) motor traditionally. In this paper, the using of switched reluctance motor (SRM) was discussed and compared with the BLDC motor. It is concluded that each motor has the ability to meet the electromechanical specifications. The best way is to match between motor and load characteristics in order to yield the best efficiency and lowest cost drive.
