Abstract :
The author presents case studies illustrating the adaptations of the amputee, expected or unexpected. Both below-the-knee and above-the-knee amputees are considered. Detailed biomechanical analyses of different level prostheses demonstrate not only how the mechanisms within the prostheses are working but also the motor adaptions of the residual muscles
