Abstract :
This paper discusses the effect of electrical gradient force on particle-triggered breakdown mechanism by investigating particle motion theoretically and experimentally in the presence of electrical gradient force, which we believe, has not been adequately considered in the study of particle-triggered breakdown in gas insulated systems (GIS). The obtained results suggest that the effect of electrical gradient force on particle motion should be taken into account in the design of particle-traps
