Abstract
We applied the numerical electromagnetic field analysis method, the moment method to compute the current, the magnetic field and electric field in lightning to the CN tower in Canada and the tower at Peissenberg in Germany. Although the lightning current velocity equals nearly a third of the velocity of light, the simulation results showed good accordance with the measured results in front of the waves. The electric field, however, differed in the wave tail. The simulated electric field approaches the measured one when we simulate the lightning by the inclined lightning channel instead of the vertical channel. For more accurate simulation, it may be necessary to take the charge distribution of the lightning cloud and lightning channel into a model
