Abstract
The paper describes the methodology adopted for the design and development of a gas insulated bushing, made of composite or synthetic insulator housing. A noteworthy feature of the design is the adaptability of the bushing, to suit an already developed cone insulator for 145 kV class gas insulated switchgear. Based on detailed analytical studies for electric field distribution, the internal electrical design for the bushing has been carried out. The various components like central conductor, stress relief shield, current collector and current transfer arrangement have been fabricated. The prototype has successfully withstood the dielectric tests as per specifications
