Effective program development for the reliability engineer is a challenge, because unlike cost cutting programs, the deliverables of the reliability program are positive, future, uncertain. This paper explores development and comparative assessment of strategies to assist the reliability engineer in a competitive program scenario. The idea of using a methodology such as evolutionary game theory has numerous beneficial aspects. Due to the wide variety of games, and the complexity that can be involved in assessing them, this paper focused primarily on the two person game, illustrating with simple mathematics and notation, in the hopes of providing the reader with a tool that can be extended and applied to numerous problems where rational conflict is the dominant factor.
