Abstract :
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute has formulated guidelines for the screening and treatment of hypercholesterolemia. The authors have written a computer program which individualizes these guidelines for a given patient based on serum cholesterol level and epidemiological characteristics. The health care provider enters data on each patient and receives recommended screening procedures and treatment options. This program can then be used as a reliable instrument in clinical trials of the efficacy of screening for hypercholesterolemia.<>
