Abstract
A DSTATCOM (Distributed Static Compensator) consisting of a 3-leg VSC (voltage source converter) and a zigzag transformer is used for the load compensation and the neutral current compensation in 3-phase 4-wire distribution system. The IcosΦ algorithm is modified for controlling the DSTATCOM for power factor correction (PFC) and zero voltage regulation (ZVR) modes at PCC (point of common coupling) with indirect current control technique. Simulations are performed for various load conditions such as a reactive linear load, an unbalanced load and a non-linear load in MATLAB environment using SIMULINK and SimPowerSystem toolbox with proposed algorithm. The prototype of DSTATCOM is developed and test results on developed hardware are also presented to validate the control algorithm.
