Abstract
This paper presents a novel discrete-time passivity-based sliding-mode control (PB-SMC) strategy which has been applied to control the current-source inverter (CSI). The proposed control strategy is obtained by combining sliding-mode control (SMC) with passivity-based control (PBC), which not only maintains the good robustness and dynamic performances of the two control methods, but also reduces the chattering problem and overshoot. Based on the dynamic modeling of the system, the proposed control strategy has been designed detailedly. The stability property is accomplished by using the Lyapunov theorem. Contrasting SMC with PBC, a doable selection of the damping assignment is presented using the similarity of the two control laws. The proposed control strategy is successfully applied to a single-phase current-source inverter used in AC power amplifier. This system may generate sinusoidal currents with adjustable amplitudes and frequencies over a wide range. Experimental results validate that the proposed control strategy provides excellent robustness, well steady state operation and dynamic response.
