Abstract :
In code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular systems, handoff is determined in the base station based on the pilot strength measurement message reported from the mobile station. Therefore, how to get the associated information and how to analyze this information in the pilot strength measurement message is one of the key techniques which determine whether a CDMA system is able to perform the handoff function perfectly. This paper proposes a method to design the pilot strength analysis function for the base station to determine whether to do handoff or not, and determine which kind of handoff (soft, softer and hard) according to the pilot strength measurement message reported from mobile station
