Abstract :
Summary form only given. In this work, the discharge characteristics in an AC plasma display panel with coplanar long-gap and high Xe content discharges are investigated. The main purpose of this work is to improve the luminous efficiency of the small volume discharges of an AC plasma display panel. The coplanar gap is varied from 80 /spl mu/m to 500 /spl mu/m and the xenon concentration is 4/spl sim/13%. As a result, the luminous efficiency increases as the coplanar gap increases within 300 /spl mu/m. However, the luminous efficiency does not increase any more over 500 /spl mu/m because the plasma volume is restricted by the fixed barrier rib height. The small volume in a pixel turns to be a stripe shape and the luminous efficiency goes down when the coplanar gap is about 500 /spl mu/m. The luminous efficiency increase as the xenon concentration increases.
