  • Abstract
    An amplifying process in optical amplifiers accompanies an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), which concerns the amplifier noise. The authors propose a novel in-service performance monitoring method utilizing an optical band-rejection filter (OBRF), by which they can separate and measure the signal light and the ASE light efficiently, and determine optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) or noise figure (NF) with ease and accuracy.
