Abstract
Cable telecommunication technology allows high-speed bi-directional transfer of Internet protocol (IP) traffic, between the CATV headend system and customer locations, over all-coaxial or hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) cable network. With the rapid progress of VoIP (voice over IP) technology, IP telephony service via cable networks has become a preferred strategy for cable data service providers. This paper presents an implementation of VoIP cable modem, which is named DCM-100. Design issues, hardware architecture, software architecture, and performance testing results are described
