Abstract
The National Power Corporation (TNB) have ordered and placed into operation three static VAr compensation systems (SVCs) at its Kuala Lumpur North (KLN) and Yong Peng (YP) substations. The project was commissioned in the middle of 1991, and over the last one and a half years, TNB have gained considerable experience in operation and maintenance of the plant. The SVCs were ordered after an extensive planning study and system simulation. Each SVC plant is designed to operate in tandem with four breaker switched reactors rated at 25 MVAr each. Here, the author documents the experience gained during the operation of these plants.<>
