  • Abstract
In the last decade, the DFT has become one of the most popular tools used by the electrical engineering community to analyse waveforms generated by power electronics circuits. However, due to the nature of this transform, transient situations cannot be studied, moreover, if present, they can mislead the conclusions. In this paper, the wavelet method is introduced as an analysis tool of some typical power converter waveforms where the DFT is useless. The fundamental properties of wavelets are presented first, then, waveforms of typical power electronics circuits are studied showing how this new method can be used to reveal transient behaviour, discontinuities in the derivatives, and other characteristics of the signals.<>
