Abstract
The septicemia expert system (SES), an expert system designed for diagnosis of pathogens (DIAGSES) and antibiotics prescription, is discussed. SES is provided with a large clinical database (SES-DB), which includes extensive information about septicemia. A link between the SES-DB and SES was designed to facilitate the evaluation of SES. It showed the possibility of improving DIAGSES efficiency. Statistical analyses were performed to study the coherence and the validity of the knowledge base. A knowledge base was designed and evaluated, and the expected improvements of DIAGSES were obtained.<>
