  • Abstract
Handoff is an essential function in cellular mobile communications. In urban microcellular systems, the traffic performance evaluated for conventional macro-cell systems with simplified models could be somewhat invalid and it should be reevaluated. This is because the user mobility affects the cell boundary crossings much more in microcellular systems. Therefore, the handoff performance analysis considering practical traffic parameters is of great importance in the system. This paper considers a directed retry scheme and provides an analytical model to study the handoff performance. Our main finding is that the forced termination probability is remarkably improved in using directed retry in a microcellular network
