Abstract :
In many image coding applications such as Web browsing, image database, and telemedicine, it is useful to quickly reconstruct a region of interest (ROI) which has the higher visual quality than the rest of an image. A progressive region of interest coding algorithm using an improved embedded zerotree wavelet coder is proposed. The proposed method performs ROI coding by simply applying the encoding process to the ROI or non-ROI. And a simple and efficient coordinate data compression is used to encode the ROI locations. The proposed technique is particularly useful when network traffic is heavy
