Abstract
Aiming at the evaluation of expansive soil in practice, the assessment model and procedure for evaluating the expansion grade of expansive soil are developed in terms of attribute recognition theory. An evaluation index system is presented, the similar weight is defined by similar figures in determining index weight according to an objective standard, and then a model based on similar weight is proposed. A typical example of the application of the model is presented, the used process, the reliability and rationality of the appraising model are explained in detail; the result is coherent to that of the method offered by the specifications for design of highway subgrades and fuzzy synthetic evaluation method. The application example validates that this model is feasible in synthetic evaluation of expansive soil. It is hoped that this will encourage the application of the model by professionals.
