Abstract :
A photonic ATM switch has been actively studied for future telecommunication networks to transport various multimedia information. In this paper we propose a photonic ATM switch with a WDM cell buffer which also uses optical wavelength as the internal routing information of the switch. This paper also presents a large capacity photonic ATM switch architecture that is suitable for a switching node of wavelength-division multiplexing networks. The switch can provide very large ATM cell switching capacity, for instance 10 Tbit/s, with reasonable complexity
