Abstract
A computer simulation study of the biomagnetic forward and inverse problem was performed. A realistically shaped, multicompartment boundary element model of the human thorax was used to reconstruct dipolar and extended current sources. The numerical results were proved using magnetic field measurements taken from a physical thorax phantom. A new technique of modelling extended sources was developed which enables the authors to validate the accuracy of inverse methods for source reconstruction. The same technique used for source modelling can be applied to model the thorax inhomogeneities too
