Abstract :
In a complicated bus system, bus passenger guidance requires consistent database. Effective guidance needs to provide information on trip origin, destination and transfer. The transfer component is the major concern, which can only be facilitated with a carefully designed hierarchical data model. A three-tier structure of the model is presented. Some practical issues of managing a bus transit database with this model are examined. For effective guidance, the detailed directional level of bus features must be incorporated into the bus transit database.
