Abstract :
Network usage of public communication networks such as Internet are unpredictable. TCPFriendness or similar criteria can become mandatory in future Internet transport protocols to prevent an Internet collapse produced by UDP based multimedia, teleoperation or NCS flows. Deadband sampling reduces the control data sent to the network, for an efficient use of the communication medium and minimizes time delays. In this paper we present a way to improve Internet NCS or teleoperation reducing network traffic, by adapting the control system data sent, to a networked data transport model; this model can be predictable using TCPFriendness. A new bidirectional flow control scheme that optimizes packet and flow efficiency of NCS transport protocols is presented; the relationship between network use and deadband is studied to explore control and network interactions. Simulation results compare TCPFriendness, constant deadband and the proposed adaptive deadband solution.
