Abstract :
The biopharmaceutical industry is actually going through a well-known innovation-commercialization process that was first identified by the famed economist Joseph A. Schumpeter in 1942. It is called the process of creative destruction. This study mainly tries to find out the process of intelligent knowledge discovery in biopharmaceutical industry. In the innovation-based economic era, why do both incumbent firms and the high entry of small innovative firms sometimes coexisted survive and prosper in the face of radical technology change? This paper explores this question by analyzing the inter-firms´ R&D collaborative interdependence for intelligent knowledge discovery of the biopharmaceutical industry strategic alliances among research type universities (RTUs), dedicated biotechnology firms (DBFs) and large pharmaceutical firms (LPFs). This study provides two results: (1) different type of alliance parties will seek a suitable interdependent governance mode at different stage of new product development under full sample analysis; (2) the variables between the types of alliance parties with the integrated interdependence have a positively linear relationship.
