Abstract
On-line methods of monitoring ageing in oil-paper insulated power transformers are limited. In this work, the use of a novel, galvanically isolated, displacement transducer is investigated, which uses winding slackness as surrogate for ageing of the paper insulation. An experiment is described, in which paper ageing is accelerated by means of elevated temperature and ageing is monitored by dissolved gas analysis, Furan analysis and depolymerisation of the paper. These observations correlate very well with increased displacement measured in the winding on the transformer core
